A man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing during an aggravated burglary in Sunderland.

Intruders forced their way into a house in South Hylton in the early hours of Friday.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 1am, we received a report of an aggravated burglary at an address on Lisa Avenue, Sunderland. It was reported that a number of men had forced their way into an address and were confronted by the occupant.

“Following an altercation, the occupant suffered non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing. An investigation is ongoing. A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and has since been released from custody.”
