Pair in court over stabbing outside Sunderland pub

Two men have appeared in court after a man suffered stab wounds outside a Sunderland pub.

A 37-year-old man was rushed to hospital after he was left injured at about 9pm on Sunday night, near The Dolphin in Farringdon.

Warren Peverley, 25, of Tay Road, Thorney Close, is charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was remanded in custody, pending an appeal, when he appeared before South Tyneside magistrates.

John William Myles, 35, of Allendale Square, Farringdon, is charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was released on bail.

Both defendants were sent to Newcastle Crown Court, where they will appear during the week commencing May 10.

A 30-year-old woman, who was also arrested in connection with the incident, is on bail until May 17.
