Investigations continue into a multi-vehicle crash which closed part of the A194M.
One person was airlifted to hospital on Wednesday, February 19 following the incident at Blackfell, Washington, near the A195 turn-off.
Two others were also taken to hospital after the crash, which involved a car and a truck, shortly after 2pm.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said on Thursday: “A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation.”
